Job Profile
To assist Radiation Protection Officers (RPOs) in implementing the facility radiation protection programme. This includes assisting with compliance to license conditions, SHEQ-INS requirements, and statutory and regulatory requirements. You will also assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of radiation protection and safety documents.
Key Performance Areas
Strategic Alignment
- Assist RPOs in providing radiological protection, health, safety, and environmental advice to NFMs and their personnel.
- Collate RP surveillance results and conventional safety matters for the RPOs.
- Ensure and manage safe nuclear and radiological operations under supervision.
- Perform on-the-job safety evaluations of projects and processes to identify and control hazards.
- Perform radiological monitoring of the workplace and workforce.
- Invigilate activities in facilities to ensure safe operation.
- Prescribe and ensure correct use of control measures, PPE, and work permits.
- Maintain accurate records of monitoring data and report timely to RPOs.
- Provide support during emergency exercises and actual emergencies.
Communication
- Report on radiological and conventional safety matters to stakeholders.
- Process, implement, and file documents such as procedures, guidelines, and results.
- Ensure personnel records (access, exposure records, medical status) are up to date.
- Compile surveillance reports and plant-specific procedure programs.
Staff Development
- Assist in training new RP personnel under supervision.
- Ensure personnel are trained in the use of safety equipment and emergency procedures.
- Participate in self-study, colloquia, and training sessions to stay updated in the field.
Requirements
Education:
- Grade 12 (or equivalent) with Physical Science and Mathematics as major subjects.
- Radiation Protection Officer Level 2 certificate.
Experience:
- Generic experience in radiological and conventional safety (Added advantage).
- Practical experience (on-the-job training) in RP and conventional safety aspects (Added advantage).

- Auditing skills and the ability to analyze data.
