SANBS: Handyman Assistant

Position Overview

Role Purpose: To assist the General Handyman in ensuring that all buildings, property, and surrounding areas are maintained in excellent condition.

​Key Performance Areas (KPAs) & Indicators (KPIs)

​KPA 1: General Assistance & Maintenance Support

  • KPI 1.1: Respond to and action requests efficiently, as instructed by the General Handyman.
  • KPI 1.2: Ensure all necessary tools and manpower resources are readily available for scheduled tasks.
  • KPI 1.3: Undertake independent general maintenance tasks and assist the General Handyman on specialized projects.
  • KPI 1.4: Prepare, dismantle, and reassemble equipment and machinery undergoing repair.
  • KPI 1.5: Provide cross-departmental assistance to other sections as and when needed.
  • KPI 1.6: Strictly comply with all Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) regulations, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and relevant legislation.
  • KPI 1.7: Travel to various Zone Sites and/or Branches alongside the General Handyman to perform maintenance.
  • KPI 1.8: Perform any other reasonable duties as requested by supervisors.

​KPA 2: Tool & Equipment Management

  • KPI 2.1: Accurately sign tools and equipment out of stock inventory.
  • KPI 2.2: Maximize the lifespan of tools and equipment through consistent care, cleaning, and preventative maintenance.
  • KPI 2.3: Ensure tool and ladder registers are completed accurately on a monthly basis.

​KPA 3: Worksite Cleanliness, Safety & Workshop Maintenance

  • KPI 3.1: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment across all active worksites.
  • KPI 3.2: Keep the main workshop clean by regularly sweeping, dusting machinery, and removing hazards.
  • KPI 3.3: Conduct routine safety checks and inspect fire equipment to ensure compliance and readiness.

​KPA 4: Administrative Duties

  • KPI 4.1: Efficiently close out work orders.
  • KPI 4.2: Complete purchase requisitions for materials and parts.
  • KPI 4.3: Maintain accurate attendance registers and demonstrate excellent timekeeping.

​Job Requirements

​Education

  • Minimum: Grade 10
  • Ideal/Preferred: Relevant Certificate in Carpentry, Plumbing, or Welding.

​Experience & Knowledge

​Proven, hands-on experience in one or more of the following trade areas:

  • ​Painting
  • ​Basic Welding
  • ​Plumbing
  • ​Carpentry
